Energy certificate

A home energy performance survey
gives a measure of your property’s
energy efficiency.

If you want to save money on your energy bills and help the environment, then it’s simple - be lean, then be green. By this we mean reduce your energy needs and use energy more efficiently first. Then think about installing renewable energy technology and sign up to a green electricity supply.

How to be lean and green

  • Install or improve insulation and draught-proofing to modern standards.
  • Is you boiler over 12 years old? Then it’s worth thinking about installing a new ultra-efficient condensing boiler.
  • Make sure that electrical appliances and lights are switched off when not in use.
  • Don’t leave appliances on standby
  • Use low energy light bulbs. And try to avoid inset halogen lights if possible – these are very energy intensive.
  • Make sure that your hot water temperature isn’t too high. We recommend a 55-60°C thermostat setting.
  • Try turning your thermostat down slightly – a 1°C reduction can save 10% of your heating energy.
  • Heavy curtains (preferably with a closed pelmet) save energy during the colder months. But only if you make sure they are drawn closed!
  • Get independent advice about your renewable energy options
  • Sign up to a high quality green electricity tariff

With high and rising fuel prices, there’s never been a better time to become lean and green!
