Why Go Green?

Fossil fuel use

Our increasing fossil fuel use is
causing problems for the environment
and human society

Energy is the life blood of our modern society. Up to now, our homes, offices, factories and transport have all been powered primarily by fossil fuels. The quantity of fossil fuels we use are mind boggling. Each day across the world we consume literally billions of litres of oil and gas, and millions of tons of coal.

Now the drawbacks of fossil fuel use are becoming apparent:

  • Using fossil fuels causes damage to the environment
  • Fossil fuels will eventually run out. This is already happening to our North Sea oil and gas reserves
  • Fossil fuel prices increase over the long term. With oil at around $100 per barrel, this means household fuel bills are averaging around £1000 per year
