Renewable Energy Grants for your Home

Grants are available towards the cost of installing renewable energy technologies in your home. The Low Carbon Buildings Programme offers funding for a range of microgeneration technologies:

The table below shows a summary of what grants are available for householders. Note that for solar PV, wind and small hydro, the maximum grant is available only for larger systems. Also the “whichever is the lower” rule applies!!

Technology Grant (whichever is lower)
Solar photovoltaics Maximum of £2,500 or 50% of eligible costs
Wind turbines Maximum of £2,500 or 30% of eligible costs
Small hydro Maximum of £2,500 or 30% of eligible costs
Solar thermal hot water Overall maximum of £400 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower
Ground source heat pumps Maximum of £1,200 or 30% of eligible costs.
Automated wood pellet fed room heaters/stoves Maximum of £600 or 20% of eligible costs
Wood fuelled boiler systems Maximum of £1,500 or 30% of costs
