Is hydropower right for you?

The suitability of hydropower technology for your property depends on some key factors:

  • Do you have a suitable water course such as a river or stream at your location?
  • Do water abstraction conditions apply?
  • What do you pay for your current electricity supply? The more you pay the more money your heat pump system will save.
  • What's your budget? Domestic scale hydro systems can vary widely in price. If civil (building) works are not required, a small 1kW turbine costs from £2,500 upwards. Larger systems requiring significant building works can cost up to £20,000. Larger systems for bigger properties will cost more.
