Green Energy Advice
Grants are available towards the cost of installing solar energy technologies in your property. The Low Carbon Buildings Programme offers funding as follows...
| Solar Domestic | Grant (whichever is lower) |
|---|---|
| Solar photovoltaics | Maximum of £2,500 or 50% of eligible costs |
| Solar thermal hot water | Overall maximum of £400 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower |
| Large community | Grant (whichever is lower) |
|---|---|
| Solar photovoltaics | Maximum of £1 million or 50% of eligible costs |
| Solar thermal hot water | Maximum of £1 million or 30% of eligible costs |
Grants can be higher in Northern Ireland or Scotland.
Note that for solar PV, the maximum grant is available only for larger systems.
If you run a business and wish to install solar thermal hot water equipment at your premises, you can get 100% tax relief for specific systems via the Government’s Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme. ECAs are claimed in the business’s income tax or corporation tax return the same way as other capital allowances.
